My Old Lady is in Bristol

Posted in Uncategorized on December 16th, 2016 by Sue

The move-in was speedy, the set up without too many problems and the opening night was…..a grand success despite two of the actors being full of cold & unwell. Frankly, you would never have known it…amazing what the mind & an adrenalin surge can do! This far we have had pretty full houses of very appreciative audiences which is so pleasing.

The pace is hotting up.

The actors are rehearsing in France, the backstage crew are primed. Shortly they will arrive in Bristol ready to move in to the theatre and spend the following four nights performing ‘My Old Lady’. We are already here making the final plans with the theatre techie, getting out as much publicity as possible and spreading the word, though finding places to legally put up posters is very difficult and fewer & fewer places allow you to leave flyers, such a pity. Various pieces of furniture for the set have been sourced from local antique shops and the Gumtree web site just need to find transport to get it all to the venue on time on the 14th. Busy days!

My Old Lady is on course for next performances

We are now being very busy in Bristol, sourcing the furniture & props for the production. Everyone is incredibly kind and helpful.

Publicity is always a trial, trying to spread the word…..the flyers have been printed using a super design by our lovely gifted neighbour so all it needs is for us to distribute them usefully around the area. Various online sites have been contacted and information has been sent to several journalist, fingers crossed they are interested enough to mention us in their monthly write-ups!

All ahead on MOL!

Good news…Samuel French in London have approved our application for the performing rights so we can go ahead with our proposal to bring My Old Lady to Bristol. Need to plan out the logistic, even though it is a long way ahead….white van run with the set & props? try to beg & borrow from sources in the UK? where will everyone stay? will Gabriel, our lovely sound guy, be able to get to the theatre in time? He will be flying back to Geneva from his theatre school in the USA on the 13th!

Exciting times!

Excited to say that we are busy trying to organise further shows of Israel Horovitz’s My Old Lady at the Alma Theatre in Bristol for dates in December. We are meeting with the theatre manager to check details of a hiring.

Rehearsals are well under way for our new production.

Gary, Lesley and Annelies are a great team. Andrew & Kathleen Brookes are super organised and calm as stage management. It all makes for fun yet satisfying rehearsals.

Publicity is now top of the agenda.

A Tale of Two Voltaires

Posted in Uncategorized on May 20th, 2015 by Sue

The first performance of Voltaire took place as a playreading for GEDS last December. It was very well received with much encouragement from the audience to stage as a production. However GEDS has, very nicely, let us know that they do not think it is suitable for inclusion in their upcoming season.  Theatre Someone has thus taken a bit of a break.

Voltaire deferred

Posted in Uncategorized on March 4th, 2014 by Sue

Well, over the last few months we have been working hard on the script for Voltaire which is now nearly fined up. The venues have been booked and the set design has been drawn up, furniture has been aquired and I’ve been busy papering over the painted table & desk…..don’t ask!  However, other options have suddenly appeared and so we have decided to defer the actual production until next spring.

Planning for the future

After a very fruitful get-together, the guys are setting about organising a fun evening of skits/poetry/songs whatever. If possible we’d like to hold it around Valentime’s Day but of course all depends on venues etc.

Disappointment

Posted in Uncategorized on October 1st, 2013 by Sue

Oh, such a shame…..we have not been able to acquire the rights to performance for our hoped production of Title and Deed by Will Eno in time to stage the show in October. In spite of chivvying the agents, we have not yet received a replyand now it is too late. Luckily, the people at our booked venues have all been very kind & understanding as we cancelled but I hate to let them down.
